The publication presents the characteristics of individual elements of the natural environment of Śląskie Voivodship and the scale of their pollution, as well as presents various aspects of human activity in natural environment. The study consists of an analytical part, enriched with a graphic presentation of selected issues in the form of charts and maps, methodological notes indicating the source and scope of the presented information, and a tabular part in the form of Excel table. The characteristics of concentration and diversification of the scale of degradation and pollution of the environment are presented in territorial breakdown by powiats and cities with powiat status. Selected data on environmental protection are also presented in the division by subregions or gminas. Moreover, for comparative purposes, more important data on Śląskie Voivodship were compared against the country and other voivodships

The elaboration contains characteristics: of the natural environment (land area, waters, air, forest environment, nature, hazardous factors (emission of air pollutants, wastewater, waste) as well as economic aspects of environmental protection. The publication consists of an analytical part and a tabular part preceded by general notes describing the scope and sources of data. In both parts, a set of thematic sections was adopted. Statistical material presented in a tabular form is supplemented with methodological notes containing information on the principles and methods of grouping data and explanations of basic concepts and definitions. The whole has been enriched by a graphical presentation of the data in the form of maps and graphs.
